Abstract :
UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology) is the site of the first management school to be established in the UK. Manchester School of Management offers an almost complete range of courses to a large number of students. The author discusses the emphasis on engineering management. The courses available, links with local schools/industry, research, and women in engineering are discussed. The stress placed on attracting young people to management is also discussed
