Abstract :
In June 2001, shortly after the UK General Election, the Prime Minister announced a review of Britain´s energy policy to the middle of the century. Nuclear energy-along with renewables and energy efficiency improvements-is an indispensable component in Britain´s journey towards a balanced low carbon energy economy. In a liberalised market it will be private investment that will finance any new construction, but the Government has the ability to create the conditions that could remove some of the investment risks associated with nuclear projects, and promote investor confidence.
