Abstract :
A novel space and wavelength tunable filter based around a diffraction grating is described which uses a compact, low cost electromagnetic tuning mechanism and operates from +or-5 V supplies. Prototype components show <3 dB optical loss, <1.6 dB polarisation sensitivity, channel bandwidth of >2.5 nm and adjacent channel isolation >30 dB. Channel selection is achieved in <4 ms.
