Abstract :
A servo system based on a surface-wound slotless brushless servo motor to achieve extremely low torque ripple is described. Torque ripple measurement and specification are discussed; the design was a design made feasible by the introduction of neodymium-iron-boron (Nd-FeB) magnet material. System torque ripple data of less than 1.5% are presented along with the generated back electromotive force of the slotless motor design. It is concluded that with this design brushless servo systems can now be used for high-performance direct-drive grinder and coating applications
