Abstract :
The spatial distribution of the surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) intensity across a phase-shifted transducer-resonator is studied. A coupled-mode analysis of this structure shows that a highly confined mode can be excited in a pi /2 shifted resonator. Experimental verification of this conclusion was obtained in a LiNbO/sub 3/ pi /2 shifted resonator, in which the SAW intensity was measured. The concentration factor (the ratio of the maximum to average SAW intensity) can be approximately 10 for reasonably long resonators.<>
