Abstract :
The paper by R. L. Gallawa, J. Lightwave Technology, vol. 1, p. 192, 1993; describes the use of Ritz-Galerkin method for evaluating single mode fiber parameters e.g.: spot size, launch efficiency integral and far-field distribution; that require the integration of the modal field over an infinite cross-section. To sum up, although the numerical results in the paper are correct they have been obtained in a manner which leads to an intricate technique to compute single mode parameters
