Abstract :
Advanced television (ATV) receiving system architectures and recommendations for interface standards are under study by the Electronic Industries Association (EIA) ATV Multiport Receiver Technical Subcommittee of the EIA Committee on ATV. The work includes both analog and digital signal delivery systems and their interoperability with NTSC and future ATV receiving systems. A generic television receiving system model was used to identify interface requirements for ATV receiver/monitors in a multimedia environment. The model was used to partition the ATV system into functional areas and to define the logical and physical properties of the interfaces between the areas. A classification of video terminals (including NTSC and ATV receivers, monitors, receiver/monitors, and other terminals) was used to analyze and define specific interfaces. The subcommittee considered alternative receiving system architectures and attributes to develop recommendations for ATV multiport receiver/monitor interface standards
