Abstract :
High-density recording using high-performance ME (metal evaporation) tape, a Viterbi decoder in the playback circuit, and a novel mechanism for tape transport is described. These developments have made it possible to realize an areal density of 1.35-μm2/bit (479 Mbpi2)
