Abstract :
This paper discusses the feasibility of detecting a zero phase current by sensing current at each of the three phases and by taking their summation. The intention is to try to establish effective techniques for the improvement of the reliability of existing power distribution network systems in which the installation of a zero phase current transformer (ZCT) is impossible in practice. For this purpose, we consider the application of a magnetic field control type or zero magnetic field type current sensor. The sensor can make contributions, surpassing the technology given by ZCT which has been widely utilized until now, regarding the enhancement of the ability of current sensing. In the near future we can expect to see new technology like this for improving impediment diagnosis for finding faint faults or faint degradations in the insulation in power line networks and for preventing fatal accidents from occurring
