Abstract :
This paper presents the theoretical and experimental results of a computer controlled recloser test system. When a series coil recloser is tested by injecting high current through its coil, the series coil drives the contacts to separate them. The inductance of the series coil is increased because of the change of contact positions. The test current is monitored by a computer during the test. The computer also controls current compensation devices to maintain the current at a relatively constant level throughout the recloser´s tripping process. The computerized test procedure results in improved accuracy and a much simplified operating procedure
