  • Abstract
    A prototype system to transmit and present full-color stereoscopic images taken by two video cameras via integrated services digital network (ISDN) (basic rate interface, single B-channel: 64 kb/s) is described. The system is outlined, and the configurations of the transmitter, receiver, and display are described. The relationship between distortion of transmitted images due to image compression and its stereoscopic effect is investigated using this system. Since images presented by this system show the stereoscopic effect in high-resolution modes, the system should be effective for the display of objects without quick motion, such as art objects, home interiors, and nature films
