  • Abstract
    The authors demonstrate the viability of high-performance vertical cavity surface emitting lasers transmission with semiconductor optical amplifiers as a low-cost alternative to distributed-feedback erbium-doped fiber amplifier systems. They study the effect of the optical amplifier noise figure on metro networks.
