Abstract :
A mathematical analysis of quartz resonant structures used in fiber optic sensor systems and driven optically is undertaken using analytical and finite-element methods. Photothermal excitation of the structure was simulated in order to study important parameters relating to heat flow, the input optical duty cycle, the maximum displacement and the frequency-load relationship. Comparisons are made with the results of experimental investigations. The extension of such work to other materials used in resonant sensor devices is discussed.<>
