Abstract :
The amplifier is based on the optical Kerr effect in waveguides with large third-order nonlinear susceptibility. The short response time of the Kerr effect gives the device an extremely large bandwidth, exceeding that of any laser amplifier. Also, for binary signals, the amplifier is shown to have a phase regenerative effect. Examples of signal and pump powers are given for polydiacetylene waveguides.<>
