Abstract
A complete hysteretic-force loop has been calculated for type-II superconductors. It is shown that, with a known applied field profile, the complete force loop can be calculated by use of C.P. Bean´s (1964) critical state model. A precise prediction of type-Il superconductor behavior in a magnetic field can be made. The sample size, induced critical current density, magnetic history, applied field strength, and gradient effects on levitation force are also considered. Inverse levitation was found to be a natural consequence of flux-trapping in the context of Bean´s model. The design rules for magnetic bearings are discussed
