Abstract :
The dust has settled on 8 EMO and we are being blinded with statistics as to how important and successful the show was. The figures are impressive ¿ nearly 240 000 visitors from round the world and 2149 exhibitors. Significantly, however, the UK ranked only seventh in the visitor´s league. Perhaps the English Channel is too much of an impediment, but since visitors trekked from Japan, India, Brazil and the USA this cannot be allowed as an excuse. The message is clear: no manufacturing nation can be an island, or even a peninsula. At the Paris EMO in 1991, more visitors must make the trip from the UK, or we must resign ourselves to being part of the service sector forever. For those who missed it all, Manufacturing Engineer presents a review of the show, warts and all. Next time you must form your own judgements!
