Abstract
The recording behavior of metal evaporated (ME) tape as a function of the angle between the direction of recording and the usual running direction of the tape is investigated in detail. It is found that the output-vs-angle curves exhibit a shift and a narrowing of the peak centered at about the normal recording direction as well as a broadening of the peak centered at the opposite direction. This is explained by a combination of remanence loss effects and the relevant head field gradients at the wiring point
