Abstract :
Loss of lock in timing recovery becomes the bottleneck of the overall system bit error rate performance in low-signal-to-noise ratio partial response recording channels. Presented here is a bound for the loss of lock rate in terms of root mean squared value of the residual timing jitter. Results of Monte-Carlo simulations agree well with the derived bound for practical magnetic recording channels
