Abstract :
In 1970, the flexible disk system was developed for the data entry system, and now it is widely used as a low cost direct access strage in many applications1. As well as other magnetic technologies, continuous effort has been made to increase the recording density of the floppy disk. There may be two trends of improvement of floppy technology. The one is to increase the recording capacity in the same disk size, and the other is to reduce the size of the disk and the disk drive. In the latter case, several small disk systems had already been developed2. Because there is no compatibility among these systems, they haven´t been used commonly. To be used popularly, the specifications of a new small disk system must be acceptable with many applications and it should be standardized.
