Abstract :
During the last ten years, keyboard tuning has become such an important component of color television that it no longer deserves the slightly pejorative description of "feature" but has been accepted as the normal tuning means for any except the lowest cost receivers. Black and white receivers have more serious cost limitations than even the lowest cost color set and therefore it is not surprising that keyboard tuning has not been inrcorporated in these sets. The cost of keyboard tuning has been rapidly diminishing while the cost of mechanical tuners has been steady or increasing. With this background in mind it was decided to design a keyboard tuning system specifically for black and white television that would be both cost effective and would provide adequate performance with the monopole antenna typically used with these sets.
