Abstract
A filter structure is proposed and used to implement nonlinear filters for image processing. The structure is very general and encompasses various classes of nonlinear filters (median filters, order statistic filters, nonlinear statistic filters, homomorphic filters, morphologic filters) and edge detectors (range edge detectors, dispersion edge detectors). It is also used to implement pattern recognition algorithms. The computational complexity of the filter structure is studied, and a VLSI implementation is proposed
