Abstract :
It is shown how and to what extent the modal structure of a multimode fiber may be found from the far-field radiation pattern. Although specific inverse integral coefficient type formulas are not obtained for each modal weight, the analysis shows how to mathematically isolate the L from m modes using a polarizer, and then deduce the modal coefficients from the result
