Abstract :
By employing the technique known as the matched filter bound, the authors derive analytical expressions for the distribution and average of the bit-error-rate in an ideal space diversity mobile radio receiver. Each diversity branch receives from a frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channel of arbitrary delay profile, and is subjected to additive Gaussian noise of arbitrary spectral shape. Numerical results calculated from the analytical expressions give insight into the relative benefits of antenna diversity and wideband transmission over the mobile radio channel
