Abstract :
A recently proposed frequency-response masking approach to implement linear phase FIR digital filters with very sharp transition band has resulted in saving in arithmetic operations as high as four to one. This approach is generalized to achieve additional savings of 20% or more. The discussion is presented in terms of low-pass filters, but the method can be applied to high-pass as well as some bandpass filters
