Abstract :
Analytic theories of additive pulse mode (APM) locking and Kerr lens mode (KLM) locking are developed. They provide a means for comparison of the two methods. In single-cavity configurations, KLM locking and APM locking produce comparable ratios of amplitude to phase modulation. This ratio may be enhanced in KLM at the expense of cavity stability. APM can be used in all-fiber systems
