  • Abstract
The electromagnetic scattering of a plane wave by a metallic spheroid is considered in this work. The solution is obtained using two alternative methods: the first method is based on applying asymptotic expansions on the spheroidal eigenvectors, allowing a closed-form solution for the fields and the scattering cross sections, which is valid for small eccentricities of the spheroid. The second method is based on the full wave analysis using the separation of variables in terms of the spheroidal eigenvectors, which allows to obtain the exact solution of the problem. Both prolate and oblate spheroids are considered, and both polarizations are studied. Numerical results are given for various values of the parameters.
