Abstract :
The effects of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) from dispersion-shifted fiber on the transmission characteristics of a 2.5 Gb/s continuous phase frequency shift keying (CPFSK) repeaterless transmission system using EDF-booster amplifiers are described. It is confirmed that power penalty degradations are caused by the received signal spectrum, in which the spectrum components exceeding the SBS threshold are lost, and the deviation of the intermediate frequency (IF) from the optimum value. The penalty can be improved by increasing signal randomness.<>
