Abstract
The development of a computer architecture that will provide the basis for integrated avionic systems is examined. This new architecture is intended to provide the backbone for avionics for aircraft being designed in the 1990s; the US Air Force program by which this architecture is being defined and specified is called Pave Pillar. The processor, operating system, software, and data buses are described. Maintainability and reliability are discussed. System considerations are also examined.<>
