Abstract :
The mathematical tools and procedures that are required for calculating the transient state of saturated electric machines are shown. A novel approach to this problem is presented in which all machine quantities which appear in the computation become state variables. In this approach there is no need for the solution of a system of nonlinear algebraic equations at each time step. It is concluded that the proposed method is significantly less time-consuming and more reliable than the iterative procedure, which can easily fail due to the inherently ill-conditioned character of the system of machine equations. A suitable method of B-H curve representation that is reliable in the dynamics computations is suggested
