Abstract :
This paper describes the man-machine interface requirements, the controlled components, the operating processes, and operating restraints which apply to the Raccoon Mountain Pumped-Storage Plant. It shows how the evaluation of these factors led to a definition of the degree of automation to be achieved and, to a large extent, to the choice of controlling mechanisms to be utilized. Finally, it describes, both in concept and in function, the resulting system. which controls four of the world´s largest reversible pump-turbines.
