Abstract :
This paper briefly illustrates the range of criteria used by Canadian utilities to assess the adequacy of present and proposed generating capacity systems. The techniques in use range from simple percentage reserve allocation to the useofprobabilistic techniques. The utilities using probabilistic evaluation procedures are indicated and a more detailed statement of the criteria is provided. This includes a relatively complete statement of the factors included in the actual calculation procedure and any changes envisaged in the immediate future.
