Abstract :
This paper presents the application of multi-attribute utility theory in a decision analysis to incorporate multiple conflicting objectives into engineering evaluations. The paper is tutorial in nature and demonstrates the application of this theory through an example problem that involves the evaluation of streetlight expansion options in a regulated utility. The use of this theory allows the decision maker to account for impacts on all relevant areas when making a decision, and results in a completely documented, sound decision.
