Abstract
The continent of Africa in general, and subSaharan Africa (SSA) in particular, has been almost forgotten in mainstream academic research in computer and information technologies. While there are many reasons that SSA lags behind the rest of the world in terms of Internet technologies and other socio-economic factors, one factor that stands out is the continent´s lack of sound education. A strong approach to addressing the problem of sound education is implementation of tele-education projects. Tele-education involves the use of educational (especially Internet-based) technologies to connect geographically dispersed teachers and students.
