Abstract :
We propose and demonstrate a novel wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) with multicast overlay. By superimposing an inverse return-to-zero multicast signal onto a nonreturn-to-zero point-to-point signal, simultaneous transmission is realized for both services. At the optical network unit (ONU), only one photodiode is required to detect both signals. No complex receiver is demanded. Multicast control is realized through a switch for each wavelength at the optical line terminal. We successfully demonstrate the proposed WDM-PON.
