Abstract :
A highly accurate method for rib/ridge waveguides, first put forward for real refractive indices, is extended to structures incorporating gain and loss. The technique is demonstrated by the design of a coupler device with metal-capped ribs, in terms of the fully two-dimensional supermodes.
