Abstract :
Replacing conventional translational motion compensation by more complex motion models significantly improves the prediction accuracy of interframe coding. This in turn results in a reduction of the prediction error that needs to be transmitted or stored, allowing higher compression. The results obtained using 2nd order geometric transformations as a means of motion compensation are presented.
