Abstract :
In this note, lower and upper bounds are derived on the quadratic cost of optimal output feedback controllers subject to constraints on the controller Structure. The use of these bounds in forming a comparative assessment of alternative controller confugurations is described and an illustrative example is given. The principal advantage of these bounds arises from the fact that they can save considerable computational effort.
