Abstract :
For profiling element concentrations in materials, it is necessary to have accurate cross section data as a function of energy. A very useful reaction for oxygen profiling is the 160(d,α)14N reaction near 1.0 MeV. Consequently, we have measured this reaction for Ed = 0.65 to 1.1 MeV at several backward angles with the Queen´s University 4 MV Van de Graaff accelerator. Our results agree reasonably with those of Picraux within his restricted energy range but differ significantly from the results of Amsel. In our experiments, thin Al203 films on carbon backings were used. The absolute cross section was obtained by using for normalization, the Rutherford scattering from tungsten which existed as a contaminant in the target.
