Abstract :
This paper examines the controversy surrounding the real inventor of the telephone in view of recently discovered papers examined by LC Pocock of the Standard Telephones and Cables´ (STC) electroacoustics laboratory. LC Pocock´s findings appear to show that, more than a decade before Alexander Graham Bell won his controversial patent, Germany´s Philipp Reiss built a telephone that worked at least as well as the one on which the patent was based.
