Abstract :
The reference pulse generator (RPG) is a transfer standard, i.e. a generator of known pulse shape, amplitude, and source impedance, useful for evaluating the measurement capabilities of waveform measurement systems. The discussion includes: principles, application methodology, and a review of the RPG evolution to ongoing development. Two examples of RPGs are described. The first is designed to evaluate the ability of a pulse-measurement system to measure a steplike pulse from onset to final value; the second is designed to establish the zero (initial) and 100% (final) response levels of a pulse-measurement system to a steplike pulse
