Abstract :
The total number and the storage time of Ba ions trapped in an RF ion trap were determined with the RF resonance absorption method at various pressures of buffer gas. He, N2, and Xe were used as the buffer gases. The addition of these buffer gases into the ion trap increased the absolute total number of Ba ions by about the same factor but the He gas best lengthened the storage time of the trapped ions
