Abstract :
The structure and characteristics of a step attenuator which has been developed for use in multimode fiber-optic systems with an incoherent light source are introduced. The definition of the attenuation and the problems to calibrate is are discussed. The calibration system and the procedure are described. The evaluated uncertainties are less than 0.01 dB/10 dN (1σ) for attenuations of 20-50 dB
