Abstract
A generalised stochastic Petri net (GSPN) model is presented for the modelling and analysis of a burst switching integrated voice/data service (IV/DS). Analyses are performed in terms of the data delay and voice cutoff fraction of the service node. To properly model the network, the concept of an ´overflow´ arc is introduced to the GSPN. Based on the analysis, the author presents a modification to an original burst switching network. Analysis has shown that the new strategy reduces the problem of an unstable data queue in heavy traffic.
