Abstract
It is well known that the position-dependent nonlinear state equations of certain electrical machines with linear magnetic characteristics can be transformed to a form in which the position dependence disappears. This so-called Blondel-Park (BP) transformation greatly simplifies the analysis of such machines. The authors extend the classical BP transformation to a more general class of electrical machines, present necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of such a state transformation, give the explicit expression for all possible transformations, and discuss some of the consequences of their characterization. Several specific machine examples are used to illustrate the results
