Abstract :
A velocity-matched LiNbO3 modulator is described which achieves an electrical 3 dB bandwidth of 44 GHz and an optical 3 dB bandwidth in excess of 50 GHz. The modulator also uses multimode waveguides in the active section to achieve excellent loss, drive voltage, and contrast ratio characteristics over a 1.3-1.55 mu m wavelength range.
