  • Abstract
    Algorithms based on the CAD concept are described for optimizing insulator contours according to a given field distribution along their surfaces. These algorithms were applied to some example insulators. By means of experimental investigations it was found that is is not sufficient to achieve a low tangential field strength component, but that it is necessary to reduce the maximum values of the total field strength as far as possible, especially in the case of high air humidities
