Abstract
The new detector, based on the drift chamber principle, circumvents the problem of multiplephoton events, encountered with MWPC-type of detectors. The detector is of a circular form with a drift space consisting of a central cathode and anode wires placed in a concentric configuration around it. The associated electronics process the incoming data with a maximum rate of 1.024 Ã 109 events/sec. Although this configuration is especially suited for measuring radial distributions of scattered photons, its geometry makes it possible to obtain full two dimensional information in polar coordinates too.
