Abstract :
Static VAr compensators (SVCs) do not have inertia or any major moving or rotating components so they are very fast at responding to changing network conditions. SVCs have been used to solve a variety of problems on the Australian HV/power systems because of their fast response and versatility. The author discusses some of these applications to large transmission and distribution systems in Australia
