Abstract :
This note details the design of a nonlinear controller to achieve transient stability of a synchronous machine connected to an infinite bus. The design method combines the use of variable structure control, nonlinear transformation techniques, and linear system theory to develop a switched control law to drive the machine from a perturbed, unstable state to a desired equilibrium point and to maintain it there. This note demonstrates the effectiveness of the control via a digital simulation.
