Abstract :
A description is provided of a completely digital HVDC converter controller based on a 16 bit microcomputer. The design comprises software programmed functions such as a proportional-integral-derivative current control amplifier, voltage-dependent current-order limiters and an alpha-minimum symmetrization unit, among others. HVDC control principles are briefly reviewed, and a detailed description of both the hardware and software structure of the controller is presented. The digital controller was implemented in an HVDC simulator, and several dynamic performance tests demonstrated the efficiency of the approach
